10,000 steps

I went hiking with John Bartholow the other day and he showed me his new toy - a pedometer. he told me, now that he's retired, he wants to be sure he gets in his 10,000 steps each day. I've always been into keeping track of things, so it seemed like a good idea. So, I ordered a pedometer that you can simply put in your pocket and it keeps tracks of your steps. I like it, and it does motivate me to walk more, or park farther away, etc.

That's awesome! Freddie and I have a pedometer that we use with our iPods to track our mileage for our marathon training. It's nice being able to keep track of how far you've gone, it can inspire you to go even further.

When Karen was in school a year or two ago they ran this program where they gave away pedometers to try to get people to take more steps - 10,000 sounds about right. I wore it for a few days and didn't make it to 10,000, but I think now with dog walking and such I've got a better baseline to start with!
