2009 and retirements!
Well, the news is starting to leak out so I thought I'd make it official by posting it here. I am going to retire on January 2, 2009! Whoop, whoop, whoop!!! And Marianne will be following up closely, and will retire in the spring of 2009. Another whoop, whoop, whoop!!! We are excited for this big change. It will give us more time to help with Grandma and Grandpa, and to do some projects around the house and yard that have been put off, and to visit family, and to travel and do some volunteer work. Overall, it is a good time to make the move. So, there it is - I think by posting it on the blog, that is making it pretty darned official!

CONGRATULATIONS!!! I am so happy and excited to hear the news - and even better now that it is "official"!! Whoop Whoop! Way to go Dad! (and Mom too!!)

Congratulations to you and mom both for ... everything! For being financially responsible and frugal enough that you can do this, for working so hard for so long and still having time for the multitude of "extracurricular" activities you do, and for including "volunteer work" in your list of things to do once retired!
... gotta say, tho, from a 30 year-old looking forward to someday retiring... It looks a long, long way off. :) Gotta keep saving those pennies!

I second what Nate said, I've always been impressed by how you balanced work and the rest of your life.

Pretty darn exciting! I'll echo what Nate said: as someone who's looking at just beginning a settled career, retirement feels miles away. But it's wonderful to hear about your retirement and mom's, too. And I know you'll both fill up the free time!
